Justifying the saying "the Balkans produce more history than it can consume", Balkan historiography has been seen as the main tool of political struggles, identity politics, the desire to assimilate, or the struggle not to assimilate. The Balkans have a special place in world history thanks to the contributions of important historians, geographers, and philosophers raised by ancient Greek cities. Emphasizing the importance of this accumulation, the book aims to examine the historiography and its sources in the Balkans from Ancient Greece to the 21st century.
The book consists of chapters written by expert historians from Turkey and the Balkans. It includes a predominantly critical bibliography and to some extent historiographical debates on the centuries divided into relatively long and sub-periods.
