International ILEM Summer School 9, organized in cooperation with the World Lawyers Association (WOLAS) and the İlim Yayma Foundation (İYV), was held in Istanbul from August 4–9, 2025, under the theme “World Order: Systemic Transformations, Vulnerabilities, Alternative Perspectives.” Bringing together young academics and researchers from various disciplines, the program focused on the political, economic, social, and legal dimensions of the current world order, addressing its structural shortcomings and exploring alternative solutions.
The opening ceremony was held at Istanbul University. Prof. Dr. Mahmut Cüneyt Yenigün, Dean of the Faculty of Economics at Istanbul University, expressed his pleasure in hosting academics from diverse regions in Istanbul. The ceremony featured discussions on the structural crises of the world order, institutional deadlocks, and the pursuit of a just and inclusive system. Tarik Yousef delivered the keynote address titled “Disruption, Uncertainty & the Future of the International Economic System,” offering significant insights into the uncertainties shaping the global economic landscape.
Throughout the program, four distinguished scholars —Ali Kaya, Mehmet Özkan, Mohsen al Attar, and Sheheen Kattiparambil— delivered a total of four lectures. In addition, two “Talks” sessions were held: the first with Tarik Yousef and Ahmet Faruk Aysan, and the second with Kevin Jon Heller and Mohsen al Attar. Participants presented their work in eight different workshops.
With over 25 international participants, the summer school also featured a cultural tour of Istanbul’s Historical Peninsula and a traditional Turkish culture event, offering attendees a rich intellectual and cultural experience.
