World (Dis)Order and Aggression: The West and The Silencing of The Global South
Organized by the Scientific Studies Association (İLEM) and the World Lawyers Association (WOLAS), an international panel titled "World (Dis)Order and Aggression: The West and The Silencing of The Global South" will be held on Thursday, August 7, 2025, at 18:30.
The panel will host Prof. Kevin Jon Heller, Senior War Crimes Advisor at the International Criminal Court, and Dr. Mohsen al Attar, legal scholar and academic, as speakers. The session will be moderated by M. Beheşti Aydoğan.
The event will explore the global crises of our time and the international community’s—particularly Western states’—inconsistent and selective responses to them. The discussion will focus on the tension between the West's indifference toward conflicts occurring beyond its political and economic boundaries and the Global South’s evolving strategies of silence in response to this apathy. The clearest example of this is the silence or neutrality adopted by many countries around the world regarding the Russia–Ukraine conflict—an apparent response to the West’s long-standing silence toward other ongoing wars.
Furthermore, the panel will critically examine the structural injustices embedded within Western-centric institutions that play a dominant role in shaping the international order, and assess how these structures influence contemporary global politics.
The panel will be held in English at the TDV ISAM Conference Hall and is open to all who are interested.
