This year’s International İLEM Summer School (IISS-9) takes as its theme “World Order: Systemic Transformations, Vulnerabilities, and Alternative Perspectives.” Against the backdrop of shifting global dynamics, the program seeks to explore the historical evolution and present challenges of the international order, including economic inequalities, environmental crises, and the erosion of democratic norms, while also considering visions of more just and sustainable futures.
The opening ceremony and keynote address will be delivered by Tarik Yousef, a distinguished economist and policy expert, under the title “Disruption, Uncertainty, and the Future of the International Economic System.” This keynote sets the intellectual tone for the week, examining the uncertainties shaping the global economy and inviting participants to critically engage with questions of systemic resilience and transformation.
The Scientific Studies Association (ILEM) is a leading Istanbul-based research and education organization dedicated to fostering intellectual inquiry, critical thinking, and collaborative scholarship. For over two decades, İLEM has brought together academics, researchers, and students from around the world to address pressing issues in social sciences and the humanities, providing a unique platform for dialogue that bridges theory and practice. The Summer School is jointly organized with the Worldwide Lawyers Association (WOLAS) and the Science Dissemination Foundation (İYV) with the support of the Presidency for Turks Abroad and Related Communities (YTB), The Society for the Dissemination of Knowledge (İYC), Istanbul University, and Istanbul University Faculty of Economics.
The keynote lecture will take place on Monday, August 4, 2025, from 10:30 am to 12:30 pm at Istanbul University Rectorate, Beyazıt. The summer school will run from August 4–9, 2025, bringing together approximately 30 graduate students, early-career scholars, and experts for a week of lectures, seminars, and workshops.
